Title: Peer Support Specialist
The Peer Support Specialist provides comprehensive care management services for people who experience mental health and substance use treatment needs. The Peer Specialist is an integral member of an interdisciplinary clinical team that works in collaboration with clients in the development and execution of a care plan that provides a holistic approach. The Peer Specialist works with the clinical team in assessing and identifying the needs of clients and provide and/or arranging for an array of services and supports as part of the individual recovery plan in order to maximize the client’s successful community adaptation and quality of life. This includes linkage to community-based services and resources, including self-help meetings such as double Trouble, AA, etc.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid N.J. Driver's License.
- High School Diploma OR GED and experience with mental health, substance abuse, and/ or co-occurring disorders.
- Will require to complete CPC approved Peer Specialist training at the time of hire or must have completed this training within one year of employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Some of the responsibilities include,
- Provide direct services to clients and their families: relapse prevention, daily living skills including money management, development and support of social and recreational activities, client psychoeducation and support, family and significant others education and support, client advocacy, crisis intervention, securing and maintaining housing and financial resources, transportation for clients in agency vehicles with adherence to agency policies and procedures, etc. Works with clients on recovery goals in all life domains noted in SAMHSA Tip #42.
- Provide referral and linkage to identified community service providers and resources. Coordinate care with service providers and other agencies providing services to clients.
- Participate in an interdisciplinary team process to ensure the provision of successful implementation of individual recovery plan goals. Seek supervision as needed in a professional and competent manner.
- Record, report, and monitor service delivery in a timely and accurate manner. Documentation responsibilities include accurate and timely completion of all necessary records (entering progress notes, service plans, BASIS-32, assessments, etc.). Documentation of utilization of evidenced based practices in treatment.
- Participate in weekly team meetings, monthly supervision, and staff meetings.
- Provide crisis intervention to include coordination of services with Psychiatric Emergency Screening Services (PESS) after consultation with supervisory staff. Periodic “on call” coverage and weekly alternative shift coverage.
- Meet all prescribed agency and program specific productivity standards.
- Schedule is flexible depending on program and client needs.
- Documentation is timely and complies with all regulatory standards.
- Timely and thorough completion of all training required by the agency, applicable state regulations and accrediting bodies.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possess strong interpersonal skills, flexibility in meeting the needs of clients and professional interaction with diverse groups of co-workers, external business partners and the community.
- Demonstrate ability to engage other people, including family members and other supports through a cooperative effort.
- Ability to follow-up and follow through with attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel to multiple locations.
- Ability to use technology, including electronic health record and a variety of software including Microsoft Office.
